CAIRO – 19 November 2024: On the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, the two leaders discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and expressed mutual appreciation for the strong relationship between Egypt and Singapore. Both leaders emphasized their commitment to advancing ties, particularly in economic collaboration, investment opportunities, and fostering dialogue across various levels.
The discussions also focused on cultural relations, particularly in student exchange programs. The leaders highlighted scholarships provided by Al-Azhar University for Singaporean students and scholarships offered by Singaporean institutions for Egyptian students. Prime Minister Wong praised Al-Azhar’s significant role in promoting education and spreading moderate Islamic values.
The meeting covered regional and global developments. Prime Minister Wong listened to President Sisi’s perspective on the Middle East’s political and economic challenges and their broader impact on international stability.
Singapore acknowledged Egypt’s critical role in maintaining regional stability and preventing the escalation of conflicts, which could have severe implications for global peace and security.
