CAIRO – 17 November 2024: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is set to travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday to participate in the G20 Summit. He will underline challenges faced by developing nations in achieving sustainable development goals amidst ongoing international political and economic fluctuations,

The president is participating in the summit, held on Monday and Tuesday, 18-19 November at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement today.

This marks Egypt's fourth overall participation in G20 summits, having previously engaged in the 2016 summit during the Chinese presidency, the 2019 summit under the Japanese presidency, and most recently, the 2023 summit during the Indian presidency.

The presidency further emphasized that these involvements underscore growing international appreciation of Egypt's stature and pivotal regional role.

Sisi will deliver a speech highlighting Egyptian development efforts and the nation’s vision on the necessity of prioritizing unity and enhancing cooperation to confront these challenges.

Moreover, the president will shed light on the regional situation and the crises confronting the region amid ongoing Israeli escalation in Palestine and Lebanon, along with Egyptian efforts to restore stability in the Middle East.

The summit, bringing together leaders of the 19 member countries of the group, in addition to the African Union and the European Union, is set to address several priority issues for developing countries.

The global gathering will focus on social inclusion, poverty and hunger combat, as well as global governance reform and energy transition within the framework of sustainable development.

The summit's agenda includes the official launch of the "Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty," an international alliance initiated by Brazil under its G20 presidency.

The alliance aims to enhance social inclusion and eliminate poverty and hunger, which are key priorities in sustainable development goals, by mobilizing financial and intellectual resources to accelerate pertinent global efforts.

On the summit sidelines, Sisi is expected to meet with several world leaders to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and mechanisms to enhance international cooperation in achieving sustainable development goals.

Their discussions will also address efforts to restore regional peace and security, fulfilling the aspirations of people for prosperity and development.
