CAIRO - 14 November 2024: The Ministry of Health and Population in Egypt has announced that the annual expenditure on kidney dialysis sessions totals LE 4.4 billion.

The launch of a national project for automating dialysis services is expected to cut session costs by 60% per year, reducing the financial gap in the healthcare budget by approximately LE 305 million annually and generating a savings of LE 1.5 billion in direct and indirect service costs. The Ministry clarified that any increase in session costs would be covered by the state, ensuring no added burden on Egyptian citizens.

The Health Ministry reported that around 59,000 patients undergo kidney dialysis in Egypt, each receiving an average of 13 sessions per month. These treatments are administered in government hospitals, private sector facilities, and hospitals run by charitable organizations, with each session costing LE 500 per patient.

In addition to dialysis, the Egyptian government also allocates LE1 billion annually for state-funded treatment programs for patients in need. Medication and other necessary treatments are issued to patients at the nearest government hospital to their residence.

For those attending private or charity-affiliated centers included in the national automation project, each health directorate will be advised on the deduction procedures for medical supplies costs.
