CAIRO - 14 November 2024: The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population revealed Thursday the details of the second phase of automating dialysis services in Upper Egypt.

The second phase of automating dialysis began in the governorates of northern Upper Egypt (Fayoum - Minya - Beni Suef), in addition to a new unit that was opened at Abu El-Nomros Hospital in Giza with a capacity of 40 dialysis machines.

The Ministry of Health and Population confirmed an improvement in the availability of general medical supplies by 70 percent for the last two months, including all dialysis supplies, and an improvement in the supply of surgical threads and surgical mesh by 40 percent.

As for heart supplies, supplies for heart and chest surgery were provided for 3,000 cases, 1,300 mechanical valves were provided, 100 tissue valves were provided for 1,400 valve replacement cases, 200 pediatric oxygenators were provided, and 300 infant oxygenators were provided for 500 pediatric heart surgery cases, in addition to providing 600 adult oxygenators.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health, explained And the population, that the ministry is working on the necessity of accelerating the activation of the system in all its stages, facing all challenges, providing all facilities for the transfer of dialysis equipment, achieving the optimal use of resources and financial sustainability, which contributes to the governance and organization of dialysis sessions and ensuring the provision of high-quality medical care.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, indicated that the "Nephro Egypt" platform, which was launched in April 2024 to transform the dialysis system into an integrated digital system, while working to improve the quality of health services provided to kidney failure patients by developing a unified and comprehensive system for managing dialysis operations in hospitals and medical centers, whether public or private, is working well.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, added that the dialysis system automation project ensures that medical supplies reach the patient safely through the "barcode" technology, adding that the "Nephro Egypt" platform contributes to enhance the safety of the patient and devices, and reduce the risk of infection, by automatically recording sterilization sessions, as the platform provides an integrated digital system for recording all sessions with the time period, the patient's vital signs, and the supplies used.

Abdel Ghaffar said that the "Nephro Misr" platform contributes to evaluating the performance of medical teams, through mobile phones, and provides about 20 percent of the total number of sessions and their cost, which helps reduce the financial burden on the state.

The platform also provides the technology to recognize the patient's face, to govern the sessions, and to ensure that the service reaches those who deserve it with high efficiency and accuracy.

He further pointed out that the total number of dialysis sessions implemented through the system, has reached 548,666 sessions since its launch, and the number of patients who benefited reached 34,908 patients.
