France confirms strong backing for Egypt’s UNESCO nominee

CAIRO - 12 November 2024: French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has officially announced France's support for Khaled El-Anany, Egypt’s nominee, in his bid for the position of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the term 2025-2029.

 

In a statement on Tuesday, France's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Minister Barrot met with El-Anany on November 8, reaffirming France’s full support for his candidacy in the upcoming election for the UNESCO role, scheduled for November 2025.

 

During the meeting, Minister Barrot emphasized France's dedication to strengthening multilateral cooperation, underscoring the country’s active commitment to UNESCO’s work across diverse fields such as education, culture, science, heritage, and media. Barrot also highlighted UNESCO's ongoing efforts to promote peace and tolerance worldwide, values central to France's support for El-Anany’s nomination.
