CAIRO - 11 November 2024: Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Hegazy, former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that the Arab-Islamic summit held in Riyadh, comes amidst extremely complex and dangerous regional circumstances and challenges related to the continued brutal Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
Ambassador Hegazy added that the summit, with the participation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, comes amid the continued arrogance and haughtiness of the Israeli occupation Prime Minister, and his claims and allegations regarding reshaping the Middle East.
Ambassador Hegazy said, in a special statement to the Middle East News Agency Monday, that the Arab-Islamic summit held coincides with the first anniversary of the previous summit, which was also held in November 2023 in Riyadh; which confirms the insistence on the unity of the Arab and Islamic ranks and the keenness to form a unified wall to confront these challenges.
He explained that Arab-Islamic unity also sends a message to all regional and international parties that "we are responsible for our region and its fate, especially in light of the turbulent international conditions," saying that this comes in connection with the crises and wars in the region, as well as the Russian military operation in Ukraine, which has entered its third year, and the risks of polarization and influential economic and political repercussions it carries.
He pointed out that Egypt, amidst all these pressures, stands tall despite all the tensions surrounding it from all strategic directions, i.e. with the continuation of the war on Gaza - which needs Arab and Islamic political, diplomatic and economic support - in addition to the crisis in Sudan and Libya and the unrest in the region.
Ambassador Hegazi further stressed the urgent need for an Arab-Islamic front in light of Israel's criminal acts that violate international humanitarian law and commit war crimes, highlighting that among these crimes are the intervention of parties and countries to obstruct international justice, in addition to the pressures exerted by the United States and Congress against the International Criminal Court, its judges and its president, Karim Khan.
In this regard, Hegazi highlighted international attempts to raise suspicions about ICC's President, to prevent them from issuing arrest warrants on charges of committing war crimes against Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Olaf Galant and figures in the Tel Aviv government, explaining at the same time that war crimes in general do not expire with the passage of time.
