CAIRO – 10 November 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty received a phone call from his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot, discussing the developments in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and efforts to reduce escalation and tension in the Middle East region.

The French Foreign Minister briefed Minister Abdelatty on the results of his recent tour of the region, which tackled developments in the Lebanese political and humanitarian scene and the latest developments in the Gaza Strip.

The two ministers discussed in detail the current efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid amid the severe deterioration in the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's categorical rejection and condemnation of the escalating Israeli measures that aim to obstruct the delivery of humanitarian aid and prevent UNRWA from carrying out its role, stressing the importance of working to empower the Palestinian Authority.

Minister Abdelatty also stressed the need for concerted international efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon, establish a truce, fully implement Security Council Resolution 1701, and provide all forms of humanitarian support.

Additionally, he reviewed the Egyptian efforts aimed at ending the presidential vacancy crisis in Lebanon, and the need to elect a president for Lebanon with Lebanese consensus without external interference, and to support Lebanese institutions, most notably the Lebanese army.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs condemned the Israeli army's targeting of UNIFIL forces in violation of Lebanese sovereignty and international law.
