CAIRO – 10 November 2024: UNICEF highlighted at the World Urban Forum (WUF 12) hosted in Cairo that 60 percent of the Egyptian population are aged below 25, which mandates "urban policies that put children living in Egypt first—ensuring they have access to education, healthcare, and safe spaces to grow and thrive."

The statement was made by Acting UNICEF Representative in Egypt Nathalie Meyer during a discussion on “Empowering Children through Urban Policy and Legislative Decision-Making Processes.”

Ms. Meyer added that "every city has the potential to be a haven for its youngest residents, and that work starts here.” Equally, the UNICEF statement underscored that "by involving children in decision-making processes, policymakers can better understand their needs and create more inclusive and child-friendly cities."
