CAIRO – 10 November 2024: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is set to host Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday as part of an official visit to Egypt that will extend over several days.

This visit aligns with the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Malaysia.

The Egyptian Cabinet stated that Ibrahim’s visit is part of both countries’ endeavors to cement their historic ties and boost political, economic, cultural and religious relations between Cairo and Kuala Lumpur.

Ibrahim’s visit will last until Tuesday, preparing the grounds for further enhancement of bilateral cooperation and also discussing regional and global issues of mutual concern, according to the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his meeting with Sisi, Ibrahim is set to discuss efforts to bolster collaboration between Egypt and Malaysia in trade and investment, as well as defence, security, tourism, education and Islamic affairs, said the ministry.

Malaysia dubs Egypt as its fifth largest trading partner in Africa in 2023, with a total trade value of RM3.35 billion (over LE 37.7 billion). From January to September this year, total trade between the two countries amounted to RM3 billion (over LE 33.7 billion), noted the ministry.

Sisi and Ibrahim will also explore new collaboration fields, including the Halal industry, health, renewable energy, water, natural resources and environmental sustainability.

Moreover, their discussions will revolve around several global issues, especially the Palestinian conflict.

The Malaysian prime minister’s delegation including his ministers for foreign affairs, investments, and trade and industry as well as the deputy minister for energy transition and water transformation and the deputy minister for natural resources and environmental sustainability.

Ibrahim is also set to deliver a speech at Al-Azhar University, engage with Malaysian students in Cairo and host an engagement session with Egyptian industry leaders.
