with a width of 90 meters, the giant floating dock “DOURADO,” has successfully sailed through the Suez Canal waterway
CAIRO- 8 November 2024: with a width of 90 meters, the giant floating dock “DOURADO,” has successfully sailed through the Suez Canal waterway due to the newly-expanded Southern Part of the Canal, announced the Suez Canal Authority Chief Admiral Osama Rabie in a statement on Friday.
It is the first time for the SCA history to witness the passage of this large floating dock, the admiral added, saying “the expansion of the southern sector contributed to raising the efficiency of the canal and increasing its capacity to receive floating units that had not previously crossed the canal.”
The floating dock, which comes from Singapore and heads to Turkey, was towed from the front by two accompanying tugboats (Hulk ll and MAVERIC 1) with its guidance by other five tugboats affiliated with the authority, Rabie said.
Rabie added that the crossing of the floating dock was not easy as it took approximately 24 hours to pass through the canal. Some pre-crossing procedures like developing a navigation plan by the Navigation Control Center have been taken. He continued that preparations for crossing the floating dock began in coordination with the company that owns the dock before the trip began.
