CAIRO – 8 November 2024: Egypt’s Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the State Secretariat for New City Development and Housing of Madagascar to collaborate on building Madagascar’s new capital, Tanamasoandro.
This partnership will leverage Egypt's extensive expertise in designing, funding, and managing its own New Administrative Capital, providing Madagascar with proven methods for planning, construction, and urban management.
Landmark Agreement for Urban Development in Madagascar
The agreement was formalized by ACUD Chairman and Managing Director Eng. Khaled Mahmoud Ahmed Abbas and Secretary of State Gerard Andriamanohisoa, who represented Madagascar’s New Cities and Housing authority.
The collaboration aims to share Egypt’s urban development insights, making use of ACUD’s experience in large-scale infrastructure, investment attraction, and modern city planning.
A Model for Urban Expansion and Infrastructure Development
According to ACUD Chairman Eng. Khaled Abbas, the partnership will significantly strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Madagascar.
This cooperation is founded on mutual benefit and respect, helping the Madagascar government to adopt best practices from Egypt’s Administrative Capital, from urban planning to infrastructure development, and branding strategies.
ACUD’s involvement will span areas such as infrastructure enhancement, investment promotion, and urban management strategies, all directed toward positioning Tanamasoandro as an attractive investment destination.
Focus on Infrastructure, Branding, and Social Integration
ACUD will also assist Madagascar with branding and marketing initiatives to promote Tanamasoandro as a vibrant investment hub.
The agreement includes strategies for creating job opportunities, social initiatives for community integration, and transitioning local residents, with a focus on knowledge exchange and sharing advanced technologies in finance, urban planning, and infrastructure development.
Egyptian and Malagasy private sector companies will also collaborate to further these urban objectives.
Madagascar Praises Egypt’s Sustainable Urban Model
Madagascar’s Secretary of State for New Cities and Housing, Gerard Andriamanohisoa, praised the sustainable, high-tech model of Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, noting its focus on modern amenities, sustainability, and quality of life.
Impressed by Egypt’s innovative project management model, Andriamanohisoa commended ACUD’s ability to establish a fully integrated city without burdening the state with construction costs, calling it an exemplary model worth emulating.
