CAIRO – 8 November 2024: Egypt is making significant strides in its ambitious plan to become a regional logistics hub. Recent aerial images have revealed the substantial progress of the "Tahya Misr 1" container terminal at the Port of Damietta.
This project is a key component of the government's broader strategy to modernize Egypt's ports and enhance its maritime trade.
The terminal is being constructed as part of a larger logistics corridor connecting Tanta, Mansoura, and Damietta. Once completed, the terminal will have a capacity of 3.5 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) and a 2000-meter quay. The infrastructure works have been fully completed.
A global consortium led by Eurogate and Hapag-Lloyd is now working on the terminal's superstructure. The terminal is being built to international standards and is expected to become a major hub for container traffic in the Mediterranean. Upon completion, the Port of Damietta's total capacity will increase to 6 million TEUs, solidifying its position as a global maritime trade hub.
