CAIRO – 8 November 2024: Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, has underlined Egypt’s unwavering support to Burkina Faso’s efforts to combat terrorism and achieve security and stability.
Receiving Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, in Cairo on Thursday, Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s commitment to supporting the capacities of national institutions in Burkina Faso.
Egypt is also dedicated to training Burkinabe security and police cadres through courses organized by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, the Egyptian foreign minister stated.
Abdelatty showcased Egypt’s counterterrorism experience, which has proven that effective confrontation of the danger of terrorism requires a comprehensive and sustainable approach.
He added that this Egyptian approach includes enhancing intellectual efforts in the face of terrorism and extremism and building national capacities.
The foreign ministers discussed the growing threats in the Sahel and Lake Chad regions posed by the terrorist groups and organizations in West Africa.
They also discussed various topics related to the Sahel and the Horn of Africa regions, addressing the latest developments in the region and their repercussions on efforts to achieve stability in Africa.
SUPPORTING TRANSITION
Meanwhile, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's backing for Burkina Faso's endeavors to successfully navigate through their transitional period.
Discussions also centered on strategies to bolster bilateral cooperation, with the Egyptian foreign minister stressing the significance of enhancing trade relations with Burkina Faso.
Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's readiness to export goods needed by the Burkinabe market and establish equitable agreements for the exchange of commodities between the countries.
He also emphasized the growing presence of Egyptian firms in Africa, particularly in sectors like construction, pharmaceuticals, and power generation, underscoring the Egyptian government's keenness to promoting Egyptian enterprises to operate within the Burkinabe market.
