CAIRO - 7 November 2024: A storm, dubbed the 'El-Maknasa' storm [translates to Broom], is expected to hit the coastal governorates in the middle of this month.

'El-Maknasa' storm is one of the heavy rain storms that the country is exposed to and continues for 4 days, as it affects the weather in the coastal cities of Egypt, which is accompanied by heavy rain, with very high wind speeds blowing from a northwesterly direction, resulting in a noticeable drop in temperatures.

During this storm, the chances of thunderstorms falling on the Red Mountains increase, as well as intermittent rain falling on the southern Upper Egypt regions.

The name "El-Maknasa" goes back to the fishermen, as they consider it a "sea broom" due to the strong cold winds and severe climatic changes in the weather, so there are intensive preparations for the "Al-Maknasa" storm before it occurs.

The Maknasa storm is one of the strongest and most influential storms, as it strikes coastal cities, especially Alexandria, Marsa Matrouh, Port Said, and Damietta, where its intensity varies from one governorate to another. It usually begins on November 16 and continues for about 4 days, causing heavy rainfall.
