CAIRO – 6 November 2024: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi updated his Estonian counterpart, President Alar Karis, on Egypt's intensive efforts to halt the “unjustified” and ongoing Israeli escalation in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as the widening scope of Israeli attacks to Yemen and Syria.
Welcoming Karis in Cairo on Wednesday, Sisi affirmed in a joint conference the importance of concerted efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire and prevent the region from sliding into a wide-scale regional war.
Sisi stated that the Palestinian cause was at the forefront of regional issues discussed with Karis as Egypt views this cause as the core of the region’s issues.
The Egyptian president stressed the need for establishing a sovereign Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, as a cornerstone for achieving stability in the Middle East.
Sisi said he discussed with Karis several regional and global issues, especially Libya, Syria, Sudan, Yemen, the Red Sea security, the Russia-Ukraine crisis as well as the food and energy security.
They agreed on the need to intensify global efforts aimed at tackling these crises, reaching peaceful solutions for existing conflicts and establishing peace and stability.
BOLSTERING COLLABORATION
During the presser, Karis noted that he has accompanied a delegation of Estonian business leaders in the fields of energy, transportation, defense, health, technology, mining and engineering, during his current visit to Cairo.
Karis emphasized that Estonia is interested in expanding cooperation in the field of digital services and cybersecurity.
He added that Estonia is also keen to build educational relations between its universities, and the universities in Cairo.
Meanwhile, Sisi said his discussions with Karis underlined the importance of exchanging expertise with regard to combating terrorism and organized crime, including the smuggling of illegal migrants.
Sisi welcomed continued support from friendly Estonia for the priority files for Egypt within the EU institutions.
The discussions highlighted Egyptian-Estonian consensus on enhancing joint efforts to strengthen the two countries’ relations, including economic and commercial ties as well as investments.
Sisi noted that Karis’s visit alongside businessmen and investors highlights Estonia’s keenness to explore cooperation opportunities especially in energy, mining, education, and food industries.
The Egyptian president underlined the growing collaboration between both countries in the fields of communication, information technology, and digital transformation with Estonia enjoying distinguished experience in this regard.
