FM to IMO Secretary-General: Egypt suffers losses of $6 billion due to Houthis attacks in Red Sea

CAIRO- 2 November 2024: The Yemeni Houthis’ attacks on Israeli,  US and UK vessels in the Red Sea due to the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on the Palestinian people of Gaza and  the Lebanese people have caused losses of the Suez Canal Authority revenues estimated at $6 billion, said Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Friday. 

 

During his meeting with the Secretary-General of International Maritime Organization (IMO) Arsenio Dominguez, Abdelatty discussed the repercussions of the ongoing war on the maritime navigation in the Red Sea and Ban El Mandab Strait. 

 

 

Both sides also discussed the potentials of cooperation in terms of the shipping and the maritime transport. 

 

Abdelatty also expressed Egypt’s aspiration towards opening a regional bureau for the IMO in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria to represent the organization in the Middle East and North Africa.
