CAIRO - 31 October 2024: The ministries of Industry and the Higher Education held meetings to discuss maximizing the role of scientific research in advancing the industrial and transportation sectors.
Egyptian Minister of Industry and Transport, and Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development Kamel el-Wazir held an expanded meeting Thursday with Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Ayman Ashour and a number of leaders from the ministries of Industry and Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Minister Kamel el-Wazir stressed that cooperation between the two sides can contribute to solving many of the problems facing the industrial sector and the challenges it faces, especially since Egypt is one of the countries that has a large scientific base and is rich in human energies.
Minister El-Wazir pointed out that solving problems related to providing fuel and energy, especially new and renewable energy, in addition to rationalizing the use of current energy, is at the top of the priorities of the Ministry of Industry, which is keen to enhance cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to find solutions in this regard, as providing the necessary water to cover the needs of the industrial and agricultural sectors is one of the most important objectives of cooperation between the two sides.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport, explained that the scope of joint cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research during the coming period includes:
- Studying the mechanisms for providing the necessary technological treatments to prepare for the use of iron ore as one of the necessary production requirements for many industries.
- Directing the activation of the role of the Metals and Mining Department at the Tebbin Institute for Metallurgical Studies affiliated with the Ministry of Industry.
- Enhancing coordination and cooperation between it and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
For his part, Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that integration between scientific research and industrial innovation is "the gateway to developing the Egyptian economy.
He also reviewed the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research 2030, during which promising economic activities were identified and studied in each of the seven regions of Egypt and an action plan was developed for the ministry in the sectors of industry, agriculture, tourism, trade, construction, health and communications in line with Egypt's Vision 2030, pointing to the results of the Alliance and Development Initiative launched by the ministry under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, the most important of which is creating academic alliances in the seven regions to integrate with the needs of the region to reach a knowledge-based economy.
He referred to a number of future projects for the two ministries, including the manufacture of low-speed electric cars (EV-Tech), where the first 100 experimental cars were produced in the industrial zone in the Fifth Settlement with a 60 percent local component, and the target is to reach 83 percent of the component within the next 3 years.
