Rains in Alexandria - file
CAIRO - 31 October 2023: Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed Thursday, as part of his tour in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, the alignment of the governorate's equipment to confront crises and disasters.
The Governor of Alexandria stressed that this alignment comes with the aim of reviewing the readiness of all equipment to control any crisis or natural disaster and confront climate change as the winter season approaches.
This comes in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in order for the country to be fully prepared to manage crises and disasters, and link crisis centers to the control center of the National Network for Emergencies and Public Safety.
In this context, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khaled explained that the governorate's equipment and supplies include a total of 1,250 special engineering equipment including: sewage equipment, drinking water company equipment, neighborhood engineering equipment, electricity company equipment, and ambulances.
The Governor of Alexandria noted that there are trained technical teams from various sectors in the governorate, noting that they have been trained to use this equipment for immediate response and rapid intervention in the affected areas, and to carry out all tasks with high efficiency and quality.
In the same context, Alexandria Governor indicated that several scenarios have been implemented to deal with rain collection points in the governorate, whether in bridges, tunnels or the expanded Corniche area, to ensure speed and efficiency in dealing with rain, within the framework of the governorate's integrated strategy for managing rainwater.
The Prime Minister listened to a detailed explanation from the head of the governorate's sewage company, who explained the status of sewage equipment, with a total of 80 pieces of equipment, indicating that they work to contribute to the operations of purifying the sewage system sites, and withdrawing rainwater pools during the storms, with readiness to carry out any task according to climate changes.
He also listened to an explanation from the head of the drinking water company in the governorate, who noted that the drinking water equipment, with a total of 60 pieces of equipment, is equipped to deal with crises by deploying emergency equipment to drain water, and by employing technical crews trained to deal with rain and floods, with readiness to carry out any task according to the situation at the time.
The head of the Ambulance Authority in the governorate also reviewed the lineup of ambulances, with a total of 20 vehicles, explaining that they are equipped to transport emergency and non-emergency cases, with an average rate of (400-430) reports per day, and in the event of crises, the operating rate is increased by 100 percent.
Regarding the engineering equipment for neighborhoods, Walid Morsi, Director General of the Crisis and Disaster Management Department in Alexandria Governorate, noted that there are 40 pieces of equipment to undertake the tasks of opening roads in the event of building collapses, or the presence of obstacles on main and expressways, pointing out the importance of this equipment in working in unpaved sites, and intervening to remove accumulations related to backfilling and removal work.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stressed the need to take various necessary measures that ensure the governorate's readiness to deal with any emergency events or crises related to rain, stressing the importance of dealing with them with the utmost efficiency possible.
