CAIRO – 31 October 2024: Ambassador to Athens Omar Amer met Greek Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogioanni to discuss promoting tourism between the two countries, designing trips that include destinations in both for international tourists, and operating more flights from Greece to Egypt's Alexandria and Sharm El Sheikh.
Ambassador to Athens Amer stated in a press interview with ANA-MPA in February that the seasonal workers agreement between the two countries, whose implementation began in 2023, would create job opportunities for 10,000 Egyptians.
The agreement signed in 2022 provides that the Egyptian laborers would be granted a nine-month stay every year to make up for the shortage in agricultural workers. The pilot phase that took place last year consisted of 5,000 workers but later the number was raised.
Greece holds the 11th position among European Union countries contributing to Egypt's economy. As of the end of April 2023, Greek investments in Egypt reached $255 million, spread across 215 projects spanning various sectors including finance, industry, services, construction, tourism, agriculture, communications, and information technology.
A 21-percent rise in the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Greece was recorded in 2022. The total trade volume between the two countries amounted to approximately €2.56 billion, marking a substantial increase from the previous year's figure of €1.69 billion.
