CAIRO – 29 October 2024: Egypt’s envoy to the United Nations Security Council has urged for the immediate adoption of a temporary ceasefire and the swift entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza, as reported by Cairo News.

Addressing the Security Council, Egypt emphasized its unwavering commitment to supporting the legitimate rights of Palestinians.

The envoy highlighted the devastating toll in Gaza, citing over 42,000 fatalities attributed to Israeli actions and repeated forced displacements of civilians. He emphasized that such ongoing escalations are enabled by the current weaknesses of international institutions, underscoring the need for a strong stance from the Security Council.

Egypt’s representative advocated for a resolution under Chapter VII of the UN Charter to compel Israel to halt hostilities in Gaza and Lebanon, calling on the Council to take decisive steps against Israel’s actions, which undermine the two-state solution.

The envoy concluded with a call for the complete withdrawal of occupation forces from Palestine and Lebanon, pressing for Israel’s adherence to Security Council resolutions in pursuit of regional stability.
