President Sisi: Egypt proposed two-day truce in Gaza to swap prisoners

CAIRO: 27 October 2024: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi announced on Sunday that Egypt over the past two days presented an initiative to cease fire in the besieged Gaza Strip for two days, during which four hostages to be released for some Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli prisons. 

 

 

In a joint press conference with his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who is paying Egypt an official visit, President Sisi added that the initiative also suggested to resume the talks following the two-day truce for more 10 days to reach a comprehensive ceasefire.

 

 

President Sisi said that he and the Algerian president have agreed on the necessity to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and release of the hostages and the prisoners. 

 

 

At the press conference, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said that the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip are suffering the scourge of full-fledged genocide on a daily basis.

 

 

The Algerian president added that his country is working with Egypt to reach a truce that will allow the entry of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. He continued that Algeria supports President Sisi's initiative to cease fire in the Gaza Strip.

 

 

On Thursday, Egypt announced that its security delegation met separately with Hamas negotiation team- led by Khalil Al Hayah- and the Israeli delegation  from the Israeli Mossad and the Shin Bet to resume the talks on reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

 

 

On Libya, which a neighbor of both Egypt and Algeria, President Sisi that he agreed with Algerian President Abdel Madjid Tebboune that the Libyan sovereignty must be preserved, and that the solution to the crisis must also be Libyan-Libyan.

 

 

Sisi also highlighted Sudan in the joint press conference, saying he and Tebboune agreed that an immediate ceasefire is essential in the country to form a government.

 

 

While Sisi praised the treatment of Egyptian companies in Algeria, Tebboune said his country supports joint investments with Egypt in the energy field.

 

 

Additionally, both leaders tackled the bilateral ties. President Sisi announced that the 9th Egyptian-Algerian joint committee will convene soon to enhance the cooperation between the two countries.
