CAIRO – 24 October 2024: Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, received Sudan's Minister of Health, Haitham Awadallah, to discuss avenues for joint cooperation in the healthcare sector between the two nations.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the second edition of the Global Population, Health, and Human Development Conference (PHDC24), held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The event, titled "Human Development for a Sustainable Future," is being hosted in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital.
During the meeting, Abdel Ghaffar welcomed the Sudanese minister and his delegation, emphasizing the deep-rooted historical ties between Egypt and Sudan. He highlighted the fruitful cooperation in various fields, particularly in the healthcare sector.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the two countries in healthcare. Discussions included Egypt's ongoing support for Sudan, along with updates on increasing training opportunities for Sudanese doctors under Egypt's fellowship programs. The meeting also covered the aid provided to Sudan through the Arab Fund for Health Development.
The talks further explored potential cooperation in the production of medicines and biological products. Abdel Ghaffar expressed Egypt’s commitment to facilitating collaboration in this area, assuring that all necessary support would be provided to Sudanese nationals residing in Egypt, ensuring their access to healthcare services.
Awadallah, Sudan's Minister of Health, congratulated Egypt’s Minister of Health on the success of the second Global Population, Health, and Human Development Conference. He commended the high quality of discussions, the organization, and the caliber of speakers and experts present at the event. He also expressed gratitude to Egypt for its continuous support of Sudan's healthcare system and for its warm hospitality towards Sudanese citizens arriving in Egypt.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohamed Gad, Adviser to the Minister of Health for International Health Relations, and Dr. Hatem Amer, Assistant Minister for International Health Relations.
