CAIRO – 23 October 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdel Aty discussed with his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira chances to boost trade exchange and investments between the two states.

The topics included the use of local currencies in bilateral transactions, as well as capitalizing on each other's capabilities to increase exports to regional and international markets, especially African ones, in light of the activation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

The two ministers also stressed –during their meeting on the sidelines of Kazan BRICS summit - the importance of putting an end to military escalation in the Middle East as well as to the Russia-Ukraine War.

Brazilian President Lula Da Silva held an official visit to Cairo in February right after Egypt had become member of BRICS to examine ways of bolstering ties. Also, in June, Assistant to Foreign Minister for Americas Affairs Sameh Abou El Enein and Brazilian Assistant to Foreign Minister for Africa and Middle East Affairs Carlos Duerte co-chaired talks on bolstering economic cooperation.
