CAIRO – 23 October 2024: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is participating on Wednesday in working sessions with leaders of the BRICS bloc of major developing economies as part of their 16th summit held in the Russian city of Kazan from October 22-24.

The first session will be held in a closed format with the participation of the BRICS leaders.

Meanwhile, the second session will be expanded to include the heads of delegations to discuss international developments and economic cooperation among the BRICS countries, as well as the Kazan declaration that will be issued at the conclusion of the summit.

During the summit, President Sisi is set to highlight Egypt's vision and positions regarding several key international and regional issues.

He will focus on means of enhancing cooperation among the BRICS countries to ensure the development of multilateral work and contribute to addressing the complex challenges facing the world politically and economically.

The president will also address global financial structural reforms to achieve the desired balance, especially in terms of amplifying the voice and interests of developing countries in various international and regional forums.

This comes in light of the growing negative impacts of international conflicts and crises on the development process in developing countries.

President Sisi's addresses during the summit will also cover climate change issues and ways to support economic and developmental cooperation among the BRICS countries.

Moreover, the president will emphasize Egypt's steadfast position on current developments in the Middle East region, the nation’s persistent and intensive efforts to de-escalate and prevent the expansion of conflict into a regional war.

This is especially important amid the grave danger that this potential expansion poses to the resources of the peoples of the region, as well as regional and international peace and security.

The president will participate in the BRICS Plus summit, which, in addition to the bloc’s member countries, includes friendly countries to the group and influential international organizations, where he will emphasize the importance of these meetings in enhancing South-South cooperation.

Egypt officially became a member of BRICS in January.

The intergovernmental organization comprises Brazil, Russia, India, and China as founding countries alongside other members: Egypt, South Africa, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Through its BRICS membership, Egypt aims to boost its investment and foreign flows as well as to foster economic cooperation with other member states.

Egypt’s participation in the current BRICS summit in Kazan constitutes the country’s first as a member of the group.
