CAIRO – 16 October 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expats received Wednesday a phone call from his Japanese counterpart IWAYA Takishi.

Minister Abdel Aty commended the Egyptian-Japanese relations and elevation of ties to the strategic partnership level in 2023. He expressed appreciation to Japan's contribution to a number of developmental projects such as the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), and schools among others.

The minister expressed aspiration that the Japanese investments would keep flowing into Egypt, noting that the Japanese investors could benefit from promising investment opportunities in the sectors of green hydrogen and artificial intelligence. He also said he looked forward to collaboration in the scientific research sector.

In a different context, Minister Abdel Aty gave an overview of the efforts deployed by Egypt to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, and a prisoner-hostage swap deal. He similarly underscored Egypt's stance rejecting the escalation carried out by Israel due to its disastrous impact on regional peace and security.

The minister also expressed ultimate rejection to the Israeli aggression against Lebanon warning it might incur the further expansion of the scope of conflict. He equally presented the communication assumed by Egypt with different Lebanese and international actors to inhibit escalation, empower Lebanese institutions to fulfill its duties, and end the crisis of the absence of a president to the country.
