Egypt, Greece discuss cooperation in carbon storage

CAIRO - 15 October 2024: Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Karim Badawi received Theodoros Skylakakis, Minister of Environment and Energy of Greece, and his accompanying delegation, who is currently visiting Cairo.
 
The two ministers stressed the concerted efforts of both countries to open new horizons for cooperation in the field of energy and sustainable development.
 
This included discussing ways to establish cooperation and partnership between Egypt and Greece in the field of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and the transfer and storage of green hydrogen within the framework of the strategic link between the two countries in the field of energy, which will bring many common economic and strategic benefits.
 
Eng. Karim Badawi stressed the need for Egypt and Greece to work on developing a clear roadmap that will enable us to establish effective cooperation in the field of carbon capture and storage and the transfer and storage of green hydrogen, in continuation of the important cooperation steps in the field of natural gas that took place between the Egyptian EGAS and the Greek Kopelousos.
 
In this regard, the two sides stressed the work on studying the signing of a joint cooperation agreement in the field of carbon capture and storage, and they also stressed the importance of cooperation with the European Union in this field and what is related to regulatory aspects.
