CAIRO – 15 October 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdel Aty made Tuesday a phone call to his German counterpart Annalenna Baerbock to hold consultations on regional issues of joint concern in light of the accelerating and perilous escalation in the region.
The minister tackled the deteriorating conditions in Gaza Strip after a year of Israeli aggression as he stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire and unconditional delivery of humanitarian and rescue aid without any obstructions by the occupational force.
Minister Abdel Aty reiterated Egypt's condemnation of Israel's confiscation of the land housing the headquarters of the UNRWA in Jerusalem to turn it into a settlement, warning of Israel's recurrent attempts to cripple the agencies' activities and systematically tarnish its reputation.
Similarly, the Egyptian ministers asserted the salience of a ceasefire in Lebanon to inhibit a comprehensive war in the region, the implementation of UNSC resolution no. 1701 issued in 2006 on the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, and the creation of the climate necessary to end the absence of a president for Lebanon.
The minister also expressed Egypt's ultimate rejection to the Israeli violations against the UNIFIL southern Lebanon, and underscored the salience of intensifying the supply of humanitarian and rescue aid to Lebanon after the displacement of one million.
