CAIRO – 13 October 2024: Egypt condemned Sunday the announcement made by Israel Thursday on the confiscation of the land housing the headquarters of the UNRWA in Jerusalem in order to build a settlement.

The statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned about Israel's frequent and persistent attempts to bring an end to the agency's activities. It added that Israel had launched a systematic campaign to tarnish the UNRWA's reputation and liquidate the Palestinian Cause.

Egypt described those steps as violations of international law, humanitarian international law, UN charter, and relevant Security Council resolutions. In that framework, Egypt demanded the council to fulfill its duties pertinent to preserving international peace and security.

The country also called on the international community to support the UNRWA in the face of Israeli targeting. It warned that the recent decision may be a first step on the way of undermining other UN organizations, which would in turn negatively affect the integrational legal system that has been stable since the 1940s.
