CAIRO - 12 October 2024: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi arrived Saturday at the opening of the Upper Egypt train station in Bashtil, Giza.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed the delegation of Sinai residents participating in the inauguration ceremony of the Al-Ferdan-Bir al-Abd new railway line.

In his remarks, President Sisi stated during the ceremony that some say LE 2 trillion is a huge amount of money to be invested in transportation, and that it could have been put into something else, but "if we are talking about developing the country.. to serve the citizens..how can we do this.. without spending this money?"

President Sisi further stressed that the state insists on implementing the stages of "Haya Karima" initiative despite the difficult circumstances.

"We are determined to complete the program. This is our promise as a state to the Egyptian countryside. We will continue this work," he added.

For his part, Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir stated, in his speech during the inauguration ceremony, that "We aim to transport 2 million passengers daily by railway in 2030."

"A total of 977 new Russian-Hungarian train cars were added and 6 Spanish Talgo luxury trains were contracted, noting that 582 new freight carriages also were added and 5,000 existing others were renovated," Minister Kamel El-Wazir said.

The minister ensured that the Ministry of Transport contributed to reducing carbon emissions by 20 percent through its projects, which contributes to the state's agenda to combat climate change and transform to green economy.
