CAIRO- 12 October 2024: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will inaugurate the Upper Egypt Railway Station (aka Bashtil Station) on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in the presence of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, and a number of ministers and leaders.
The total area of Bashtil Station is approximately 239,000 square meters, equivalent to 57 acres. The station has a capacity to accommodate 250,000 passengers per day.
Its central location between Ramses Railway Station and Giza Station, in Giza Governorate—often referred to as the gateway to Upper Egypt—makes it a strategic hub.
Bashtil Station connects major railway lines in Egypt, including the High Dam, Alexandria-Imbaba, Al-Manashi, and Al-Qabari lines. Additionally, it is situated along four main axes that facilitate traffic flow: Lieutenant General Kamal Amer Axis, Sudan Street, Ahmed Orabi Axis, and Airport Street - 26 July Axis, Al-Masry Al Youm reported.
The station has a commercial mall that occupies approximately 90% of the station area, Youm7 reported. The station features a spacious ticketing hall and includes dedicated facilities for people with disabilities. There are accessible pathways starting from the main entrance that lead to the train platforms.
The station houses a train car maintenance workshop and a tractor maintenance workshop. It features 28 ticket windows, with 6 platforms designated for Upper Egypt passengers and 4 platforms for another line.
