CAIRO – 5 October 2024: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi laid a wreath of flowers at the Unknown Soldier Memorial in Cairo's Nasr City district on Saturday, in commemoration of the 51st anniversary of October 6 War.

The President also laid wreaths at the tombs of two late Presidents Gamal Abdel Nasser and Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat.

President Sisi was accompanied by Lieutenant General Abdel Majeed Saqr, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defense and Military Production, and Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.

During the Six-Day War in 1967, Israel captured the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, Old City of Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights. On October 6, 1973, at 2:00 p.m. (Cairo time), Egyptian forces launched an attack against Israeli troops, forcing them to retreat 15 kilometers east of the Suez Canal and allowing Egypt to reclaim its territory.
