Egypt follows up on shooting incident in Mexico resulting in deaths of Egyptian nationals

CAIRO – 4 October 2024: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs is following up on the circumstances surrounding the recent shooting incident in Mexico that resulted in the deaths of several Egyptian citizens.

 

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry, stated that Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, has directed the consular sector and the Egyptian embassy in Mexico to closely monitor the situation and communicate with Mexican authorities to clarify the details of the incident.

 

The Ministry extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, praying for God's mercy upon them and strength for their loved ones during this difficult time.

 

Mexican military troops opened fire on a pickup truck carrying 33 migrants and killed six migrants including three Egyptians, one from Peru and another from Honduras, while the sixth migrant is still unidentified. The Shooting took place in southern Chiapas state on Tuesday, Reuters and AP reported.

 

The new Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the killing and called for launching an investigation. Reuters reported on Thursday that the Mexican authorities arrested the police personnel who opened fire at the migrants.
