CAIRO – 22 September 2024: On the sidelines of the opening session of the Future Summit, which focuses on enhancing international multilateral action, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held meetings with several leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Rashad Al-Alimi, President of Côte d'Ivoire Alassane Ouattara, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa, and Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah.

 

During these meetings, they conveyed their greetings and appreciation to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Egypt, emphasizing the importance of enhancing coordination and cooperation on various issues of mutual interest.

 

The Minister reaffirmed Egypt's dedication to expanding cooperation with these countries and also met with the Foreign Ministers of Croatia, Algeria, Kenya, Eritrea, Nigeria, Monaco, and the Ugandan Minister of State.

 

He also met with World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director, Cindy Hensley McCain. He discussed with her the situation in the besieged Gaza Strip. Abdelatty expressing concern over the worsening humanitarian conditions. He condemned the use of starvation and food as weapons of war.

 

Egypt requests opening crossing for humanitarian aid to Sudan

 

Abdelatty also, met with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mr. Hussein Awad Ali. During the meeting, Abdelatty outlined Egypt's efforts within various international mechanisms to support Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, aiming to resolve the crisis and prevent further bloodshed while achieving a comprehensive ceasefire.

 

He emphasized Egypt's commitment to facilitating the movement of aid trucks through crossings to Sudan, highlighting the importance of delivering assistance to the Sudanese people. He also expressed appreciation for the Sovereignty Council's responsiveness to requests for opening the "Adre" crossing for humanitarian aid.

 

Additionally, the discussion addressed joint water security concerns for both Nile downstream countries, Egypt and Sudan. They agreed on coordinating efforts to address unilateral actions that do not align with international law, ensuring the rights and interests of both nations and their peoples are preserved.

 

Egypt stands by Lebanon

Additionally, the Egyptian Minister met with Slovenia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tanja Fajon.

 

Minister Abdelatty praised the progress of Egyptian-Slovenian relations, highlighting the importance of following up on the recommendations from the second session of the Joint Economic Committee.

 

The two officials also discussed regional and international developments of mutual interest, particularly the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as recent events in Lebanon.

 

Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt's efforts in these matters, emphasizing the need for coordinated Arab and international actions to support the two-state solution and recognize a Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

 

He called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and unobstructed aid access.

 

He expressed Egypt's deep concern over escalating tensions in southern Lebanon, which threaten the unity and sovereignty of Lebanese territory. He reaffirmed Egypt's solidarity with Lebanon and stressed the importance of preventing the conflict from widening to ensure regional stability.
