CAIRO – 19 September 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty set off for Washington on Thursday for a bilateral visit aimed at enhancing ties with the United States and discussing key regional issues.

During his visit, the top Egyptian diplomat is slated to engage in extensive meetings with several members of Congress and US diplomats focusing on Middle Eastern and African affairs and crises, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

Additionally, Abdelatty will take part in a roundtable discussion hosted by a prominent American think tank, the ministry said, without specifying the name.

This diplomatic mission to Washington precedes Abdelatty's attendance at the high-level segment of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Abdelatty’s visit comes a day after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held meetings with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the foreign minister in Cairo, discussing the Gaza war, and the growing escalation in the region after the deadly detonation of pager devices in Lebanon by Israel.

During the visit, the two countries held their Strategic Dialogue and Blinken announced a US government investment of $129 to contribute to advancing joint Egypt-US priorities.

The US-Egypt Strategic Dialogue focused on collaborating to achieve Egypt’s Vision 2030 with regard to education, protect and preserve Egypt’s cultural heritage, and boost the Egyptian tourism sector.
