Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, Russian Industrial Zone on top of Lavorv's talks with Egyptian FM

CAIRO – 17 September 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty met Monday with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow to discuss the updates of major projects implemented jointly, mainly Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian Industrial Zone (RIZ) at the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCzone).

Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuous coordination and consultation between the two sides, as well as bolstering joint collaboration in various fields, particularly energy, food security, tourism, transport, and logistics in light of Egypt's recent membership in BRICS.

The two ministers also exchanged views on the Israeli aggression against Gaza Strip and the West Bank. There was congruence on the necessity of a ceasefire, unconditional delivery of humanitarian aid, and establishment of a Palestinian state having as capital Eastern Jerusalem.

The talks equally tackled the crises of Sudan, Libya and Syria, as well as insecurity in the Red Sea. Further, the Russian and Egyptian ministers expressed support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.

Regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the Egyptian minister underscored the salience of a legally binding agreement on the filling and operation of the dam, rejecting any unilateral measures or any harm to the two downstream countries. Abdelatty and Lavrov also discussed other affairs of mutual interest.
