CAIRO – 14 September 2024: Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus had commended Egypt’s presidential human development project "Bedaya," launched recently to ensure fair and effective access for citizens to state resources in various fields.

In a recorded speech, Ghebreyesus said the initiative outlines a comprehensive vision in which foreign policy, security, economic development, social and health services, and national cohesion converge to foster human development.

He also praised Bedaya’s role in encouraging cross sectoral collaboration by enhancing health education, social protection and labour, particularly commending the project’s focus on women and youth empowerment.

“Investing in health not only saves lives but also drives development and economy grows by cultivating a healthy and productive workforce. It also safeguards future generations,” stated Ghebreyesus.

WHO chief hailed President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s “visionary understanding,” congratulating him and the government on the development of the initiative.

The project, launched late in August as per Sisi’s directives, aims to enhance investment in human capital through a comprehensive program that focuses on human development and the promotion of the Egyptian identity.

The initiative commenced on September 7 and will continue for 100 days across all governorates of Egypt.

It encompasses a wide range of initiatives in the fields of health, education, culture, sports, and job creation, in an integrated manner involving all state entities, civil society, and the private sector.

The goal of the initiative is to ensure that all segments of the population, across various age groups, benefit fairly and effectively from state resources, improving the quality of life for Egyptian citizens in all governorates.

Meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar early in September, President Sisi directed finalizing the executive plans for the pillars of the project. Sisi emphasized that human capital is the true wealth of Egypt that must be nurtured and invested in.

The president underscored the need to enhance coordination and integration efforts among all state entities in various areas of the republic to achieve the initiative's targets, ensuring that citizens reap its positive benefits as swiftly as possible.
