Egypt's National Dialogue fosters political unity, engagement

CAIRO – 11 September 2024: The National Dialogue in Egypt has emerged as a critical platform for political discussion, gaining widespread attention. It has played a significant role in fostering political and party unity, serving as a bridge between citizens and the executive authorities. The dialogue has garnered unprecedented support from Egypt's political leadership due to the vital issues it addresses.

Dr. Saeed Ghanem, First Deputy of the Congress Party, highlighted that the National Dialogue emphasizes the inclusiveness of Egypt’s "New Republic," creating a space where all voices contribute to the country’s sustainable development goals and Vision 2030.

He noted that the dialogue has become the most followed platform because it addresses daily concerns of citizens, creating a strong connection between the dialogue and the Egyptian public. The recommendations emerging from the dialogue have drawn keen interest from the executive authorities.

Ghanem further explained that the National Dialogue management is committed to reaching all areas of the country. By coordinating with various political and youth movements, they ensure that opposition voices are included in discussions about national priorities.

This effort supports a participatory approach where state institutions work together to achieve the desired development goals across all sectors.

The National Dialogue has also influenced significant political moves, such as the release of individuals held in pre-trial detention, Ghanem noted. These actions reinforce freedoms and contribute to social stability. The dialogue has also invigorated political parties, prompting them to prepare positions on the various issues that the Board of Trustees has prioritized in political, economic, social, and cultural spheres.

MP Amr El-Kotamy, Secretary of the Economic Affairs Committee of Parliament, said the National Dialogue reflects an unprecedented balance and diversity within the New Republic.

He emphasized that it has become a key milestone in Egypt’s political and social reform journey, allowing various political, trade union, and academic voices to express their views on the nation’s challenges. This has fostered a more diverse and vibrant political life and strengthened Egypt’s internal front, supporting the country's sustainable development efforts.

El-Kotamy added that the National Dialogue sets a strong example of positive engagement between the state and its citizens. The implementation of its recommendations reflects the leadership's commitment to enhancing justice and human rights, thereby boosting public trust in state institutions and demonstrating the government’s seriousness in listening to citizens' demands.

MP Mohamed Kamal Marei, Chairman of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Committee of Parliament, emphasized that the National Dialogue has created a state of political and party unity. It has brought together all political forces to discuss pressing national issues and succeeded in gathering a wide range of political perspectives around one table.

Marei noted that the dialogue has become an unprecedented platform where all parties and political forces participate with a shared goal: the nation's and citizens' interests. Despite differences in opinion, participants have worked together to formulate recommendations that satisfy all involved parties.

He concluded by stating that the National Dialogue, in its current structure, has achieved great success by addressing issues of national concern. The dialogue's outcomes have received significant attention from Egypt’s political leadership, which aims to implement them.
