CAIRO – 10 September 2024: Sigrid Kaag, the UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, on Tuesday praised Egypt and Jordan for their tireless efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
She emphasized the urgent need to protect the lives of all civilians amid the ongoing Israeli war, which has lasted for over 11 months.
In a speech delivered during the 162nd session of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers, Kaag stated, "The Middle East region is suffering from a great tragedy that continues to unfold before our very eyes, with the suffering of civilians in Gaza, who have been living in inhumane conditions for 11 months of war, continuing to worsen."
She pointed to the severe damage inflicted on Palestinian children as a result of the ongoing war, including their deprivation of the right to education. She stressed the need to work towards a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of detainees, and the daily delivery of humanitarian aid to address the ongoing crisis in the Strip.
Kaag commended the efforts of the World Health Organization, international organizations, and UNRWA in combating polio and successfully implementing a vaccination campaign in Gaza, despite the obstacles and difficulties caused by the ongoing war.
