CAIRO - 9 September 2024: The metro in Greater Cairo is the main and official means of transportation for students in general, especially university students, but has even increased in importance since several expansions in recent years.
The metro connects a large number of universities, most notably Cairo, Ain Shams and Helwan universities, and some private universities in Cairo and Giza.
The inauguration of the Arab League metro station on the third metro line in Mohandeseen district contributed to relieving the great pressure on the second metro line, as it became the second interchange station between the third and second lines, after the Ataba metro station.
The operation of 5 new metro stations in the third phase of the third metro line also contributed to the fluidity and flow of passenger traffic on the three lines.
The metro provides discounted and subsidized subscriptions for university and school students with a discount of up to 90% of the ticket value. The government allocated in the state budget for the fiscal year 2024/2025 650 million pounds in support for student subscriptions on railway and metro lines.
