CAIRO – 7 September 2024: Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs Ambassador Sameh Aboul Enein led the Egyptian delegation at the Egypt-US Joint Economic Committee meetings held in Washington, DC, on September 4-5, 2024.

 

 

The meetings also were participated by Ambassador Moataz Zahran, Egypt's Ambassador to the United States.

 

The meetings focused on boosting economic cooperation between the two countries and exploring opportunities in investment and bilateral trade, within the framework of the long-term strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States. Discussions included enhancing collaboration in key sectors such as renewable energy, technology, infrastructure, and agriculture, in alignment with the new Egyptian government’s economic program.

 

In his speech, Ambassador Aboul Enein highlighted the significance of these meetings for fostering sustainable economic cooperation and reaffirmed Egypt’s view of the United States as a major partner in development. He emphasized Egypt's commitment to increasing trade and investment exchanges with the United States to bolster economic growth and create new job opportunities for youth. He noted that the joint committee serves as a vital platform for advancing economic and trade relations to benefit both nations.

 

On the sidelines of the committee meetings, the Assistant Secretary of State for American Affairs held several discussions with senior American officials, including the Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs and the Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources. These discussions focused on advancing coordination on regional issues to ensure stability in the Middle East and enhancing cooperation in security and development.

 

Additionally, the Assistant Secretary of State for American Affairs met with officials from prominent American institutions such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), and the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). These meetings addressed cooperation frameworks in clean energy, infrastructure, technology, digital transformation, and initiatives to empower youth and women in Egypt.

 

Furthermore, the Assistant Secretary engaged with academics and researchers at The Wilson Center and the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). These discussions emphasized Egypt’s role in regional and international stability, conflict resolution, and sustainable development. They also explored opportunities for enhancing collaboration between Egypt and these research institutions to support regional security and development.
