CAIRO – 5 September 2024: Egypt contributed to the Cameroonian presidential initiative on eradicating hepatitis C, as the Egyptian embassy in collaboration with Al Andalous Pharmaceutical delivered a drug shipment as a grant earlier this week to the ministry of health.

The Cameroonian minister valued the move, and noted that Egypt had also made a similar one in October 2023 on treating children from anemia. On her side, Ambassador Dalia Fayez underscored Egypt's eagerness for transferring experience to fellow African states on curing diseases and epidemics.

In October, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus handed over President Abdel Fattah El Sisi the WHO Certification for Hepatitis C Elimination.

Egypt has thus become the first country globally to receive a certificate from the WHO for eliminating the disease. This impressive accomplishment was made through the presidential campaign ‘100 Million Healthy Lives’ and the use of locally-produced drugs.
