CAIRO – 4 September 2024: Egypt condemned Wednesday the terror attack launched against Mafa village in Yobe state eastern Nigeria, incurring dozens of casualties.

The statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed condolences on the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery. It also affirmed solidarity with Nigeria's counterterrorism efforts, and endeavors to accomplish security and stability.

On Sunday, 150 Boko Haram terrorists raided the village riding motorcycles, shooting at shoppers in a market, and torching stores and homes. Thirty-seven bodies were retrieved, while there are estimates that the death toll could be 100.

The attack is likely a retaliatory act as two Boko Haram terrorists had been killed by residents earlier, as reported by Reuters. The terrorist group has been active in Yobe among other states for 15 years, killed thousands of Nigerians, and caused the displacement of around two million.
