CAIRO – 4 September 2024: President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi headed Wednesday to Turkey in an official visit that is the first by an Egyptian chief of state in 12 years, and in reciprocation of that held by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in February.

The Egyptian and Turkish presidents will hold thorough talks, and chair the first meeting of the High-Profile Strategic Cooperation Council. The meeting will discuss ways to expand collaboration in various fields, and exchange views on issues of joint concern such as endeavors to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and de-escalation in the Middle East. The two presidents will also attend the signing of MoUs in different sectors.

The Egyptian presidency described in a statement President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi’s current visit to Ankara – which is in fulfillment of the invitation of Turkish counterpart - as “historic.” It also labeled it a new episode in strengthening relations bilaterally and on the level of the region that experiences challenges that require consultation and coordination between the two states.
