CAIRO – 2 September 2024: On Sunday, Dr. Badr Abdel Atty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, held a meeting with the leaders and members of the African Affairs Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This meeting was part of ongoing efforts to maintain regular communication and discuss Egypt's foreign policy priorities in Africa.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson and Director of Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated today, Monday, that the Minister emphasized the strategic importance of relations with Africa. He highlighted the continent as a vital strategic depth for Egyptian national security and a key factor in the future growth of Egypt's economy, given the vast potential of the African market.
Minister Abdel Atty underscored Africa's significance in Egypt's foreign policy, noting that the continent has been a focal point since he assumed office. This is evident in the frequency of his visits to African countries, reflecting Egypt’s keen interest in strengthening ties with Africa.
The Minister shared his observations from recent visits and meetings with African counterparts, noting a strong preference for the role of Egyptian companies in the continent. He emphasized the strategic importance of political, economic, and military relations with African nations and urged increased efforts to activate the role of the Egyptian private sector, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, in boosting trade with African countries.
Ambassador Abu Zeid added that Dr. Abdel Atty directed Egyptian embassies across Africa to enhance cooperation in key areas such as food security, clean energy, construction and infrastructure, housing, healthcare, and agriculture and irrigation.
The Minister also stressed the importance of working with African nations to intensify high-level meetings, political consultations, and joint committees at both senior official and ministerial levels. This approach aims to foster increased communication, coordination, and cooperation across various fields.
In conclusion, the spokesperson mentioned that Minister Abdel Atty listened to the proposals and ideas from members of the African Affairs Division, aiming to strengthen cooperation with African nations. The Minister directed the immediate implementation of many of these ideas, reflecting his commitment to encouraging innovative and creative solutions within the Ministry.
