CAIRO – 1 September 2024: The Egyptian Public Prosecution ordered the pretrial detention of two Israelis after interrogating them, the Egyptian Attorney-General’s office said in a statement on Sunday.

The two Israelis have been accused of committing crimes of bullying, inciting panic and fear among citizens, and assaulting and destroying contents in a hotel in Egypt’s Taba.

The Egyptian Public Prosecution received a report about a quarrel between two Israelis and three Egyptian employees at the hotel in Taba. After the initial investigation, the two Israelis bullied and used violence against the three victims and assaulted and injured them, besides destroying the hotel’s contents.

Further investigations will be carried out, the statement said.

Medical reports confirmed that the injuries of the Egyptian employees varied between skull fractures and lacerations, the prosecution said in the statement.

Several Israelis and Jews visit the Egyptian city of Taba every year to spend their vacations. However, when the Hamas-Israel war broke out, 95 percent of the Israeli tourists left the Taba hotels, according to Al Sharq Bloomberg on October 10, 2023, three days after the breakout of the war.
