CAIRO – 29 August 2024: President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi received Thursday a U.S. Congress delegation led by Senator Joni Ernst to discuss regional crises, mainly those of Gaza and Sudan.
The delegation affirmed that the keenness of various U.S. institutions on bilateral relations and strategic partnership with Egypt for it constitutes the cornerstone of stability and peace in the Middle East.
On that front, the delegation members lauded the Egyptian role in pacification endeavors since the outbreak of war in Gaza, noting that their visit is aimed at supporting the pathway of a ceasefire, captive exchange between Hamas and Israel as well as regional de-escalation.
In that context, President Sisi underscored that the persistence of the Gaza War would exacerbate tensions in the Middle East, and that its impact had also extended to the West Bank in the form of Israeli violations. Hence, he stipulated the salience of ending the war, remedying the humanitarian suffering in Gaza, and pushing for the two-state solution.
Equally, the meeting - attended by the Egyptian foreign minister and the U.S. ambassador – included talks on devising a political solution that would end the armed conflict in Sudan, among other regional crises.
