CAIRO – 29 August 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expats Badr Abdelatty made Thursday a phone call to his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi expressing aspiration to hold the joint ministerial committee meeting soon as a step to strengthen relations.

In the framework, Minister Abdelatty commended the size of trade between the two countries as it exceeded $1 billion, saying that he looked forward to building on this milestone by increasing Indonesian investments in Egypt. Similarly, both sides expressed interest in boosting the reciprocal flow of tourists, especially that direct flights were launched between Cairo and Jakarta in 2023.

In light of Indonesia's membership in the G20, the Egyptian minister tackled the necessity of reforming the global financial system and governance in response to the geopolitical crises and sustainable development priorities.

On another level, the phone call also included consultations on the regional repercussions of the Gaza War, implications of the Israeli violations in the West Bank, and provocative acts related to Al Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem. In that context, the two ministers agreed on coordinating ceasefire efforts within the work of the Arab-Islamic ministerial committee formed to deal with the Gaza crisis.
