CAIRO – 28 August 2024: The Egyptian Ministry of Health has announced that it has heightened surveillance at all border crossings to detect any cases of cholera.
Despite recent outbreaks in neighboring countries, Egypt has reported no confirmed cases of the disease, which is not endemic to the country.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, emphasized that most cholera cases can be treated successfully with oral rehydration solutions.
However, patients with severe dehydration may require intravenous fluids and antibiotics.
Given the recent outbreaks in neighboring countries, the Ministry of Health has intensified preventive measures, particularly at land borders. All travelers arriving from Sudan are being screened for any signs of the disease.
