CAIRO – 26 August 2024: Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Health, has confirmed that there have been no reported cases of cholera in Egypt.

Despite the increased vigilance at border crossings to monitor for any potential cases, particularly due to outbreaks in neighboring countries, Egypt remains cholera-free.

Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that cholera is not endemic to Egypt and that most cases can be treated effectively with oral rehydration solutions. However, severe cases may require intravenous fluids and antibiotics.

The Ministry of Health has increased preventive measures, especially at land border crossings with Sudan, to screen all arrivals and prevent the spread of the disease.
