CAIRO – 26 August 2024: The United Nations has highlighted the significance of the ongoing talks in Cairo aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.

In a statement posted on its official account on Platform X, the UN also called for a ceasefire and a de-escalation of tensions along the Blue Line, the demarcation line drawn by the UN between Lebanon, Israel, and the occupied Golan Heights.

Egypt stressed to all concerned parties its rejection to any Israeli presence in Rafah Border Crossing or Philadelphi Corridor, a high-profile source told Egyptian media Monday.

The Egyptian security delegation is deploying big efforts to achieve the largest extent of congruence among the two parties in Gaza, and coordinates with the U.S. and Qatar, the source added.

It equally noted that Egypt had been administering mediation between the two warring parties in Gaza in alignment with its national security and the rights of the Palestinian people.
